Lucknow: Three people were killed, and one critically injured after two groups clashed over a love marriage in Phulat village in Khatauli area in Muzaffarnagar district, UP, on Tuesday night.
Ankit (26) and Rohit (29) succumbed to gunshot wounds, while Rahul (27) died during treatment, police said, adding that Harimohan (48) is in hospital wher, his condition is critical.
Police said Ankit had married Harimohan’s daughter around 10 months ago against the wishes of her family due to which there was animosity between them. Harimohan’s side had reportedly warned Ankit against returning to the village. However, Ankit did not heed the threat and visited the village to attend an event on Tuesday.
Upon seeing Ankit in the market, members of the girl’s family, including her father and brothers Rohit and Rahul, allegedly accosted him and fatally attacked him with sharp objects. The clash took a more violent turn, and firearms were used, resulting in the deaths and injuries, police said.
Ratanpuri SHO Akshay Sharmasaid, “Six people from both sides have been arrested and raids to arrest more accused are being conducted. Two separate cases have been registered after family members of the deceased filed police complaints.”
SSP Abhishek Singh asserted that the situation is under control and police personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
