BREAKING: Raids Conducted on Journalists and Newsclick Staff Amid Chinese Funding Allegations

New Delhi: On Tuesday (October 3), the police carried out searches at the residences of journalists associated with the digital news platform Newsclick in New Delhi. Reports suggest that the journalists’ phones and laptops were confiscated. Newsclick has been under scrutiny since allegations of propagating Chinese propaganda in India emerged against it in August.

Police conducted searches at the homes of Sanjay Rajoura, Bhasha Singh, Urmilesh, Prabir Purkayastha, Abhisar Sharma, Aunindyo Chakraborty, and Sohail Hashmi earlier this morning. Their phones and laptops were also seized, and some journalists on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that a few journalists associated with Newsclick were taken to a police station.

Abhisar Sharma, one of the journalists at Newsclick, took to X to report that the police had confiscated his laptop and that the Delhi Police had arrived at his residence.
