Canada has ended its freeze on funding for UNRWA after facing weeks of protests and criticism. This decision has been welcomed by rights advocates,

who see it as a much-needed step, particularly as Palestinians in Gaza are grappling with a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Israeli attacks.

According to Canada’s Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen, the decision to reinstate funding acknowledges “the critical role that UNRWA plays” in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
