Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a branch manager and a field officer of a Punjab National Bank’s Khekra branch in Baghpat for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
The branch manager and the field officer have been identified as Lalit Yadav and Mukesh Meena respectively. An FIR was lodged in this connection on July 31 and a probe is underway.
CBI sources said that the complainant was having a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) account in the branch. In fact, it was a joint account in the name of the complainant and his grandfather, they added.
The complainant alleged that Rs 4.95 lakh, which was sanctioned in the KCC account, was transferred to his savings bank account. However, he could not withdraw the entire amount as Rs 50,000 was put on hold by the branch manager, the CBI sources said, adding that when the complainant asked the branch manager and the field officer to release the amount they allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 which was later reduced to Rs 25,000.
On Tuesday both the officers were nabbed red-handed while accepting the bribe, the CBI sources added.
