CBI nabs UP man in Poland drug consignments case

Lucknow: CBI on Friday arrested a man from Prayagraj in connection with a case involving 3,726 gm psychotropic substances that were seized recently.

The accused, identified as Mohit Jaiswal, was produced before court and sent to judicial custody. CBI will take him in remand soon, said the sources.

CBI sources said that NCB had been tipped off about three consignments by the Interpol drug unit on July 4. Later, three suspicious parcels were received at the office of foreign post office on Kotla road in Delhi on July 6.

CBI said that the parcels bearing numbers had receivers named as Arjun Gupta of Mumbai and two of Anil Kumar of Prayagraj and Jennifer.

CBI checked the consignments in the presence of customs department teams and found that each of the three consignments had packets marked with alphabets A to E.

“The polythene envelope marked A had pink coloured tablets with RR (symbol of Rolls Royce) and peach coloured tablets having the image of Sphinx. All the tablets were mixed homogeneously by hand and it was found that most of the tablets were defaced,” said the CBI.

“The polythene envelope marked B had grey tablets with Audi A5 and C had Rolls Royce inscribed on them. Thereafter, D and E packets were opened in which peach coloured tablets of Sphinx were found,” said the CBI. Sources added these drugs were shipped from Poland.

CBI said that three FIRs were registered under NDPS Act and Mohit’s name cropped up during the investigation.

“Searches were conducted and Mohit was arrested. Efforts are on to trace others,” said CBI.
