The Supreme Court collegium recommended Andhra Pradesh high court chief justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior advocate KV Viswanathan for appointment as judges in the top court, with Viswanathan in line to be the Chief Justice of India in August 2030. The collegium said Viswanathan’s “wide experience and profound knowledge will provide a significant value addition to the Supreme Court”. The Supreme Court is currently short of two judges, with four more vacancies due to arise by the second week of July.
