Container driver tries to run over cop, nabbed

Lucknow: A container driver allegedly tried to run over a traffic sub inspector after he was denied permission to enter the city during ‘no-entry timing’ in the Banthra police station area, police said.

A team of traffic police chased and nabbed the driver. He was booked under relevant sections of IPC including that of attempted murder.

The injured traffic sub-inspector Anoop Kumar was admitted to a hospital.

Anoop said: “I was deployed at Junabganj tri-section when at around 6am, no entry for heavy vehicles came into effect. I started manning the routine traffic movement at the road. Around 6.30am, a container from Kanpur side reached the tri section and the driver insisted on entering the city. Traffic cops told him to take the Mohanlalganj route. But the driver indulged in a verbal spat. When I intervened, the driver abused me before dangerously driving the vehicle and hitting me.”

Anoop said the driver drove the vehicle at a high speed and attempted to run over him

“Though I fell down, I managed to save myself from being crushed,” he said.
