Lucknow: After a 45-year-old man, wanted in connection with a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, died soon after being arrested on Sunday, members of the STF team conducting the operation, including two women constables, were booked for murder on Tuesday.
The victim, Ajay Singh alias Shakti Singh, was arrested by the STF outside his residence in Lakhhara village of Pratapgarh. The situation took a grave turn when Singh’s health deteriorated soon after his arrest.
Despite efforts to provide medical support, Singh’s condition worsened, and he later died. Senior officers said that Raghvendra Singh, STF inspector leading the raid, had been suspended.
Lodging an FIR, Singh’s family members alleged that they showed hospital prescriptions and medicines to the STF team but they did not pay attention to it.
The victim’s daughter, Janhvi Singh, said the police arrived at their residence at 3.30pm and took her father into custody without any warrant. She alleged that despite her attempts to provide medical reports and medicines to the police, her father was forcibly taken away without being given necessary medication.
Superintendent of police, Pratapgarh, Satpal Antil said, “We have registered a case of murder against the STF team at Sangipur police station. Investigation has been transferred to the crime branch for qualitative and in-depth probe.” Antil said Singh was a heart patient who had previously undergone surgery. He was wanted in a case registered at the Gomtinagar police station in Lucknow.
