The fifth day of the auspicious Sharadiya Navaratri is dedicated to the worship and adoration of Skandamata, the fifth form of Mother Durga. Devotees observe fasts and perform rituals in her honor. In ancient scriptures, Lord Kartikeya, the commander-in-chief of the divine forces, is also referred to as Skand. Therefore, Mother Parvati, the primal energy, is hailed as Skandamata. It is believed in the religious texts that by worshipping Skandamata, one gains the favor of Lord Shiva, and her blessings shower devotees with grace.
