Amidst the backdrop of the alleged “detention” of several farm leaders, a confrontation between farmers and police in Sangrur district resulted in one individual losing his life due to a tractor-trolley accident. Furthermore, at least five police officers sustained injuries during the clash.
The deceased individual, identified as a farmer participating in the protest within the Longowal area of the district, was reportedly involved in an attempt to obstruct a national highway and toll plaza. Law enforcement authorities were attempting to prevent the protesters from carrying out these actions, according to officials.
This incident occurred as farmers staged their protest a day before a scheduled demonstration in Chandigarh, organized by 16 different farm organizations. Notable participants included the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union (Karanti kari), BKU (Ekta Azaad), Aazaad Kisan Committee, Doaba, BKU (Behramke), and the Bhoomi Bachao Mohim. Their collective objective was to demand compensation for losses incurred due to flooding.
