Apple’s supplier company Foxconn has started production of iPhone 15 at its Tamil Nadu plant in India. According to media reports, Foxconn is preparing to deliver the new device in a few weeks. The scale of iPhone production in India will largely depend on the availability of parts that are largely imported.
According to the report, Foxconn is expected to start mass production by December 2024 at the Hyderabad plant with an investment of around Rs 3,300 crore. People with knowledge of the matter said other Apple suppliers in India — Pegatron Corp and a Wistron Corp factory being acquired by the Tata group — will also assemble the iPhone 15 soon.
However, an Apple spokesperson and representatives of Wistron and Pegatron declined to comment on the matter. At the same time, Foxconn has not made any official comment. Apple has steadily expanded in India through its Taiwanese suppliers and has benefited from some financial incentives from the Modi administration to bring in more high-end manufacturing.
