Friend of woman who was found dead held

Lucknow: A day after a 27-year-old woman’s body was found in the back seat of a sedan in Vrindavan colony, police nabbed her friend from Jharkhand on Friday.

Police claimed that the man was in the same car when the Odisha woman died. Senior police officers said that the future of the case will depend upon the post-mortem examination, which will be conducted on Saturday.

Assistant commissioner of police, Cantonment, Abhinav Kumar said the victim’s family members were yet to reach Lucknow.

“Once they reach, they will first get an FIR lodged and then send the body for post-mortem examination,” he said. Police sources said that a Kanpur resident was detained from Dhanbad in Jharkhand on Friday and on the basis of surveillance and his mobile phone location shows that he was with the Odisha woman at the time of her death. “He had fled away from the vehicle after the woman died,” said police sources.

On Thursday, police said that the Odisha woman was in Lucknow in search of a job and her body was recovered in a sedan parked in the thickets near an overhead water tank in sector 19 of Vrindavan colony under PGI police station area and its rear door was open. Boys playing cricket in the vicinity reached the car to fetch their ball and spotted the body and informed the police.
