
Lucknow: The Chandauli police on Thursday arrested three members of a gang of ‘robber bride’ including the ‘bride’ from near Majhwar railway station in Chandauli district for cheating and robbery in the name of marriage. The police also recovered cash worth Rs 8,000 from them.
According to reports, a resident of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, Sanjay Singh lodged a complaint on December 27 that he was cheated and robbed in the name of marriage. A resident of Chandauli, Sonu had contacted Sanjay for marriage. He had come to Chandauli with his brother Bhupendra and sister-in-law Poonam to fix his marriage.
Sanjay got married to Babita (name changed), a resident of Sujabad Domri in Chandauli district on December 26 in presence of Sonu and his partner Raju Krishna in Ramnagar, Varanasi. While Sanjay was returning to his village with the bride, she fled with a bag containing Rs 12,000.
ASP Vinay Kumar Singh said taking a prompt action in this case, the Kotwali police team nabbed the bride and her companions Sanjay Ram, Dharmendra Ram, Arjun Ram near a temple on highway next to Majhwar railway station.
During interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that they used to trap unmarried men of Rajasthan facing difficulty in getting married. They then fix the marriage of such men with the woman member of their gang and after marriage the ‘bride’ used to decamp with the cash and valuables while on way to the groom’s place.
