GRP arrests two for carrying illegit cash worth Rs 17.83 lakh

Lucknow: Government Railway Police at Varanasi Junction on Sunday nabbed two Moradabad based persons carrying cash worth Rs 17.83 lakhs in their bags.

As they could not give account or supporting documents in favour of cash they were taken under custody and income tax officials were called for further investigation, said CO GRP KP Singh.

Inspector GRP Varanasi Junction Hemant Singh that his team was busy in carrying out checking drive at platforms of railway station in view of huge rush of Kanwarias. During the same checking drive the cops intercepted two persons, who were carrying huge cash.

As the duo could not produce any document in support of cash being carried by them the GRP personnel took them to their office. When the cash kept in their bags were counted, officials said, a total of Rs 17.83 lakhs were found packed in them. When the cops interrogated the duo they said that they were brassware traders from Moradabad.

The traders said that they were returning Moradabad following collection of dues from the traders, who had received supplies from them. However, they could not produce any document in support of cash, said CO adding, following these developments IT officials were called for further investigation.
