Himachal BJP MP Harsh Mahajan recovers after hospitalisation, expresses gratitude to party supporters

Shimla, June 27 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajeev Bindal and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday visited party’s Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here to enquire about his health and wish him a speedy recovery.

The senior BJP leaders also interacted with attending doctors and received an update on his medical condition.

Bindal and Thakur said that party workers and well-wishers across the state were concerned after learning about Mahajan’s sudden health issue.

They told that, according to the doctors, Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan was admitted due to dehydration and low blood pressure, and that there is no heart blockage or any other cardiac problem.

They expressed relief that Mahajan’s condition is stable and improving rapidly and prayed for his continued good health and long life.

Expressing gratitude, Rajya Sabha MP Mahajan said: “I am completely healthy now. Due to a sudden health-related issue, I had to undergo medical treatment at the hospital for a short while. By the grace of God, the timely care provided by the doctors, and the prayers, good wishes, and affection of my family, friends, well-wishers, and supporters, I have now fully recovered.”

He also added: “I sincerely thank everyone who enquired about my well-being through phone calls, messages, and other means. Your affection, trust, and blessings are my greatest strength. I express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to each one of you for your support and prayers.”

BJP’s Mahajan, a Congress rebel who was once known for his proximity to state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, got elected to the Rajya Sabha in February 2024 by defeating Congress nominee Abhishek Manu Singhvi amid reports of cross-voting by at least six ruling party legislators.

Both the candidates had secured 34 votes each in the 68-member House, including three Independent legislators who are believed to have voted in favour of the BJP.

Mahajan was eventually declared the winner through draw of lots.

Three-time legislator Mahajan had left the Congress and joined the BJP just ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections after terming the grand old party as “directionless” and “lacking vision”.
