
This package includes Rs 750 crore for restoration and rehabilitation and Rs 1,000 crore for MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act).
The compensation for those affected by the disasters has also been increased substantially. For instance, the compensation for a completely damaged house, which was initially Rs 1.30 lakh, has been raised five and a half times to Rs 7 lakh. Similarly, the compensation for partial damage to a ‘kutcha’ house has been increased by 25 times to Rs 1 lakh, and for partial damage to a ‘pucca’ house, it has been raised from Rs 6,500 to Rs 1 lakh.
Sukhu also mentioned that the relief package includes assistance for shops, dhabas, cowsheds, and tenants who have suffered damage or loss. The compensation for damage to shops or dhabas, previously Rs 25,000, has been increased fourfold to Rs 1 lakh. Assistance for damage or loss to tenants’ belongings has been raised from Rs 2,500 to Rs 50,000.
Agriculture and horticulture have also faced significant damage in the disaster. Compensation for damage to agricultural and horticultural land has been increased from Rs 3,615 per bigha to Rs 10,000, and compensation for crop loss per bigha has risen eightfold to Rs 4,000.
The relief package aims to address the extensive damage caused by the recent natural disasters, including damage to homes, agricultural and horticultural lands, livestock, and businesses. It also includes measures to support affected families, such as providing electricity and water connections to damaged houses and offering financial assistance for rent payments to those living in relief camps.
