Lucknow: Days after the Pran Pratistha of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, the historic Beechwala Ram-Lakshman-Janaki temple on Kanpur’s Meston Road, which also served as the nerve centre of freedom struggle, has received a bomb threat.

Police said a poster with a threat to blow up the temple was pasted on a wall and several posters were found scattered on the floor.

The accused also threatened to kill BJP leader and trustee of the temple, Rohit Sahu.

A grand event was organized at Ram-Lakshman-Janaki Temple on the consecration day.

“Certain objectionable things were written in the poster. The mischief mongers have also threatened to kill my brother,” said Rahul Sahu, younger brother of Rohit.

Additional commissioner of police (ADCP), east, Tej Swarup Singh, said, “A case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of the IPC at Kotwali police station. We are trying to zero in on the miscreants with the help of CCTV cameras installed in the area. Local intelligence has also been roped in.”

The ADCP said that security has been beefed up on the temple premises and added that the accused persons would be nabbed soon.

The temple, located next to a mosque, is known for promoting communal harmony.

During the struggle for independence, freedom-fighters used to assemble at Beech Wala temple to listen to speeches delivered by prominent leaders of the movement.

On Aug 14, 1947, the national flag was hoisted here by Shiv Narain Tandon, a noted freedom fighter and the first MP from Kanpur.

Since then, people have been hoisting the tricolour at Beech Wala Ram-Lakshman-Janaki temple every year.
