Farmers from Bijnor gathered at Ganga Institute under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arjitakti) to stage a protest. These farmers were raising their voices against the issues faced by the sugar mills in Bijnor.
The farmers were specifically concerned about the problems plaguing the Najibabad Sugar Mill’s expansion, the payment issues of Bhilai Sugar Mill, and the challenges related to sugarcane procurement in Bijnor district. Chaudhary Digambar Singh, the state president, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for resolving these issues.
Chaudhary Digambar Singh stated that they were protesting to draw attention to the capacity expansion of the Najibabad Sugar Mill, payment issues of Bhilai Sugar Mill, and difficulties related to Gur (jaggery) production in Bijnor district.
He mentioned that on September 25, a grand meeting would be held in Lucknow. He reminded the attendees that in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced the capacity expansion of the cooperative sugar mill on the Najibabad Road. However, since the announcement, no significant progress has been observed.
Chaudhary Digambar Singh also pointed out that Bajaj’s sugar mill was failing to make payments. The protest aimed to highlight these issues and pressure the authorities into taking corrective action.
