These regulations align with international standards and emphasize safety in air traffic services.
The DGCA expressed its commitment to ensuring the highest level of aviation safety and highlighted the collaborative efforts undertaken with stakeholders to implement these regulations effectively. The new rules establish maximum permissible duty periods and minimum mandatory rest periods for ATCOs.
These regulations are designed in accordance with guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) while considering India’s national, social, and cultural contexts. The aim is to create safer skies and address the health and well-being of ATCOs, ensuring the continued provision of safe air traffic services.
The 57 airports covered include nine in the northern region, 15 in the southern region, twelve in the western region, eleven in the eastern region, and ten in the northeast region. The DGCA plans to roll out these regulations at other airports gradually, following the roadmap outlined by the Airport Authority of India.
