Irked by bawling grandson, man kills 2yr-old, daughter-in-law

Lucknow: Irritated by his two-year-old grandson’s constant crying, a 55-year-old man allegedly killed the child as well as his 27-year-old daughter-in-law in a fit of rage in Mudiyakalan village of Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on Friday. The accused Kamalkant, who was later arrested, is mentally unstable, police said.

The twin murder took place at the family home in Taalgaon police station area. Sitapur SP Chakresh Mishra said Kamalkant, who was irked by the continuous bawling of his grandson, Ayush, attacked the child with a sickle. When Shikha — Kamalkant’s daughter-in-law and the child’s mother — tried to protect her son, Kamalkant struck her too.

Ayush died on the spot while Shikha succumbed at the hospital. The accused then climbed a wall and threatened to kill himself. Kamalkant’s wife, who was absent from the spot at the time of the crime, later alerted cops who arrested the accused and seized the murder weapon. Kamalkant’s son and the child’s father works in Punjab.

Residents said Kamalkant had been experiencing mental health issues and would often scream at night due to his grandson’s crying, but nobody intervened or took him to a doctor.
