‘Bharat Ratna’, the country’s highest civilian honour, is awarded to those who have rendered exceptional and noteworthy service to the nation in specific fields like art, literature, science, social service and sports. This honor was instituted by the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad on January 2, 1954.
