J&K: Flood in Chenab due to heavy rains in Akhnoor, rescue of 105 people… hundreds of acres of land submerged

Due to heavy rains in Akhnoor area of Jammu district, there was a flash flood in Chenab river on Saturday, inundating hundreds of acres of land. A rescue operation was launched by the district administration to take people to safer areas.

Jammu’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harvinder Singh told the media, “Chenab river is in spate. The dams around the banks of the river have been damaged. The water of the river has reached close to the villages, so we have come here to evacuate people. The situation is under control.”

He said that 105 people have been evacuated from the area in view of the threat of rising water level in the river. National and State Disaster Response Force and local authorities have been pressed into rescue operations.
