The BJP has once again nominated actress-turned-politician Hema Malini as their candidate, for the second time. In the previous election, she defeated her close rival, Kunwar Narendra Singh from the RLD, by a margin of nearly three lakh votes. At that time, RLD had formed an alliance with SP and BSP, while Congress contested alone. In the last election, Congress fielded senior leader Mahesh Pathak in the electoral arena.
