The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has completed the work of filling the decades-old main cracks of Rumigate, after which it will be opened for Muharram processions. Due to the cracks in Rumigate, there was a danger to it. Its decorations had also started falling apart, after which the restoration work of the gate was started.
Superintendent archaeologist Aftab Hussain said that the main cracks of Rumigate have been filled in about three to four months. Seeing its dilapidated condition, the decision of renovation was taken. Work on this project started seven months ago. The superintendent told that before the renovation, every small and big crack was seen and it was also mentioned so that the repair work could be done properly.
In view of the Muharram procession, the road is being opened on the orders of the government, but except for the main gate, the rest of the work will continue. The rest of the ornamentation work is expected to be completed in the next four to five months. About 50 percent work has been completed so far. He told that a special mixture of lime surkhi, urad dal, bel giri juice etc. is being used for its repair. This mixture of plaster is very durable.

Rumi Darwaza is considered to be the signature building of Lucknow. Which is famous not only in India but all over the world for its beautiful texture. Nawab Asaf-ud-daulah started the construction of Rumi Darwaza and Imambara in 1784. Its construction work was completed in the year 1786. There is an estimate that the cost of its construction at that time was one crore.
It is worth noting that when the Rumi Darwaza was being built, there was a famine in Awadh. Therefore, for the purpose of giving bread to the hungry, Asafuddaula had made a detailed plan of these buildings. So that some money can be given to them in lieu of the wages for the construction.

The architecture of Imambara and Rumi Darwaza was done by a map Navis named Kifayatullah. It was the same craftsman who handled the crescent-shaped semi-dome of the Rumi Darwaza and the buttress of the laden roof of the Imambara.
