Major fire breaks out at Baba Market in Ghaziabad; no casualties reported

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A major fire broke out around midnight in several shops at Baba Market in Govindpuram area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district, triggering a large-scale firefighting operation.

The blaze engulfed four to five shops in the market, prompting authorities to deploy multiple fire tenders and water tankers to contain the flames.

According to the Fire Department, information about the incident was received at the Kotwali Fire Station at around midnight. Fire engines were immediately rushed to the spot, and firefighters began efforts to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby establishments.

Fire Officer Rahul Pal Singh said that a significant challenge during the operation was gaining access to the affected shops, as the shutters were heavily reinforced and securely locked.

“Today, at around 12:00 midnight, information was received at the Kotwali Fire Station that a fire had broken out in 4-5 shops at Baba Market, located in Govindpuram. Fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene. The shutters of the affected shops were very strong and securely locked, so it took considerable time to cut them open and gain access. Firefighters then brought the fire under control. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident,” Singh said.

A total of eight fire tenders, along with multiple water tankers, were deployed during the operation. After sustained efforts, firefighters successfully controlled the blaze and prevented it from spreading further. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, and an investigation is expected to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.

Earlier this month, a major fire broke out at a tyre rubber processing factory in the Rajendra Nagar area of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad district. Officials said the blaze was brought under control after nearly an hour of firefighting, and no casualties were reported.

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal said that information regarding the fire was received at Sahibabad Fire Station, following which two fire tenders were immediately dispatched. As the intensity of the blaze became clear, additional firefighting units were deployed. A total of four fire tenders worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby industrial units.

The latest incident comes amid heightened focus on fire safety measures in Ghaziabad.
