Man arrested for urinating on face of Dalit youth in UP

Lucknow:  Sonbhadra Police on Thursday arrested one Jawahir Patel for urinating on the face of a dalit, Gulab Kol, following a dispute. It is alleged that Jawahir first thrashed Gulab who fell on the ground. Jawahir then urinated on him. The incident took place on July 11 and the video of the incident went viral on the social media on Thursday, after which the police swung into action and arrested Jawahir and his associate Kulate who was present with him at the time of the crime.

According to reports, the incident occurred at Ghatita village in Jugail area of Sonbhadra on July 11. A local resident, Jawahir Patel, allegedly assaulted dalit youth Gulab Kol and urinated in his ear.

SP Sonbhadra Yashvir Singh said, “Jawahir Patel and Gulab Kol were consuming liquor at former’s house when a fight broke out between them over some issue. Jawahir allegedly beat Gulab and then urinated on him. Jawahir’s friend Kulate made a video clipping of the incident and made it viral on social media.”

Taking note of the viral video, the police raided the house of the accused and arrested him and his accomplice on Thursday. An FIR was lodged against Jawahir and Kulate under appropriate sections.

Deputy inspector general of police RP Singh also reached the Jugal police station to take first-hand account of the incident.

Earlier, a dalit man, Rajendra Kumar, was also assaulted and forced to lick shoes by a contractual lineman of the electricity department, Tejbali Singh Patel, in Odahatha village under Shahganj police station area of Sonbhadra district on July 6. The police arrested Tejbali, and his service was terminated after the video clippings of the incident went viral.
