Cops Arrest Accused On Way To Police Station

Lucknow: Enraged over his sister’s love affair, a man chopped off her head and carried it to the local police station in a gunny bag to surrender before the police in Barabanki on Friday.
Police said that the accused, Riyaz Rasheed (24) had a spat with his younger sister Asifa (18) over her affair with their neighbour Chand Babu.
The situation took a turn for the worse when Riyaz lost his cool, chopped Asifa’s head off, kept it in a gunny bag and left home for the police station. In the meantime, some locals informed the police control room and the police intercepted him on the way.
Additional SP Barabanki, Ashutosh Mishra said that at around 12 pm on Friday they got information that a man holding the severed head of a woman was spotted on a road in Mithwara village. A police team reached the spot and caught Riyaz.
“He was taken to Fatehpur station. Another police team went to Riyaz’s house and found the remaining portion of the body,” said Mishra.
Mishra said that during questioning, Riyaz said he was angry over his sister’s relationship with the man.
Riyaz got into an argument with his sister over her refusal to end the relationship when they were alone on Friday, said the police.
“After the argument, Riyaz went outside and returned with an axe. He attacked her when she was standing outside the house,” Mishra said. The FIR against Riyaz has been filed by his father Abdul Rasheed, a farmer.
SHO Fatehpur, Dhirendra Kumar said that during preliminary inquiry, the police came to know that the victim had eloped with a neighbour Chand Babu around three months ago.
“A case was then filed against Chand Babu at Fatehpur police station under the charges of IPC 366 (abducting a woman to marry),” said the SHO.
Around a week later, the police had found the girl and arrested the man with whom she had eloped and had wanted to marry.
