Man gets 25 yrs jail for girl, 11, after 39-day trial

Lucknow: Concluding a trial in 39 days, the court of additional district and sessions judge (Pocso), Kapila Raghav, sentenced a 23-year-old man to 25 years in jail after finding him guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl in Hasanpur town of Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.

The crime took place on June 10 when the class 5 girl was on her way to a mobile repair shop. The accused lured the child by offering her money and raped her at his home.

According to investigation officer Jitendra Baliyan, “An FIR was registered under IPC sections 376 AB, 377 and the Pocso Act at Hasanpur police station. Danish was arrested on the day of the crime and a foolproof charge-sheet was filed on June 14. Since then, he has been lodged in jail.”

Public prosecutor Basant Singh Saini said, “During the trial, which began on July 1, the girl’s testimony and medical reports played a crucial role in the conviction of the accused.”

On May 21, the special Pocso court had awarded life imprisonment to a 19-year-old man for raping a four-year-old girl in Amroha district. The trial was concluded in 53 days.
