They have been accused of assaulting and threatening her of dire consequences.

The victim alleged that she was given triple talaq by her husband after she failed to fulfil his dowry demands.

Victim told police that she was married to Atiq Ahmed on January 27, 2019 as per Muslim customs and her family had given adequate dowry.

However, few months into marriage, her husband and in-laws started insulting her on the pretext of not fulfilling dowry demands.

They sought Rs 5 lakh to purchase cattle as her husband wanted to start dairy business. When she told them that her father was unable to fetch more money, the husband assaulted her and ousted her from the house.

Police said, the man and in-laws even threatened to set her ablaze if she dared to enter the house without money.

When other relatives intervened, husband agreed to take her back to house but continued to harass her.

In March 2023, Atiq again thrashed her and threw her out of the house while threating of triple talaq. Since then, the victim was staying at her parent’s house.

On July 2, all close relatives once again assembled to settle the dispute where Atiq pronounced triple talaq in their presence.
