
Lucknow: A 38-year-old woman, Geeta, was allegedly killed by her husband, Neeraj Kumar, 42, for not bearing a child during their 20 years of marriage. The incident took place at Gazipur village under Barla police limits of Aligarh district on Saturday morning.
DSP (Barla), Sarjana Singh, said, “Preliminary probe has revealed the couple had a strained relationship and used to often fight over not having a child. Geeta’s family was informed about her death and a police team was formed to arrest the culprit. An FIR under IPC section 302 (murder) was registered against Neeraj based on the complaint by the victim’s family. The weapon used to kill Geeta is yet to be recovered.”
A local villager, Ravinder Singh, said, “Neeraj runs a grocery shop in the village and his wife used to work from home as a tailor. She was sewing clothes when her husband attacked her with a sharp object. Neeraj left the house after killing her. He also locked the room.”
Local police and a forensic team later reached the village and sent the body for postmortem.
Geeta’s brother Raghav Singh, a resident of Firozabad, said, “My sister was married to Neeraj on December 29, 2003. Neeraj then started harassing her and she told us about it. But, we never thought things would come to this… On Saturday morning we received a call that Neeraj killed my sister and fled the village.”
