Mandatory Paid Leave for Employees During G20 Summit: Delhi Government’s Directive to Businesses

The Delhi administration has instructed proprietors of shops, commercial establishments, and businesses across the city to offer compensated time off to their workforce on September 8, 9, and 10 in light of the impending G20 Summit.

Earlier, the Delhi government had declared public holidays in the national capital from September 8 to 10 due to the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be hosted at the newly constructed convention center at Pragati Maidan in the New Delhi district.

As per the announcement, “All employers of shops, commercial, and business establishments operating in New Delhi, the district of NCT of Delhi, are required to shut down their establishments from 08/09/2023 to 10/09/2023 and provide paid leave to their employees/workers,” as stated in the notification issued by the Delhi government.

In recent days, the government had also revealed the suspension of operations for banks, financial institutions, and commercial entities within the district.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit is set to welcome 29 heads of state, alongside high-ranking officials from the European Union, invited guest nations, and 14 leaders of international organizations.

With a focus on security, comprehensive arrangements are being undertaken to ensure the well-being of the attending dignitaries during their stay in Delhi. A combination of paramilitary forces, Delhi Police, and AI modules are being employed to bolster security arrangements at the event venues. Furthermore, National Security Guard (NSG) personnel and Army snipers will be strategically positioned in tall structures to enhance security measures.
