Swami Vivekananda had a profound connection with Uttarakhand, drawn by the tranquil valleys of Kumaon and the spiritual power of the Himalayas. Recognizing the spiritual magnetism of the Himalayas, he envisioned establishing a monastery where both Advaita teachings and meditation could coexist. With this goal in mind, his disciples founded the Advaita Ashram in Mayavati, nestled amidst dense jungles near Lohaghat in Champawat district, Uttarakhand, on March 19, 1899.
