Mirzapur Women’s Hospital: Corruption and Extortion Raise Alarming Concerns”

The Women’s Hospital in Mirzapur has become a major hotspot of corruption. Patients, especially women in distress, are being extorted from the operation theater to the surgical ward.
Operating under the guise of government schemes, ambulance ward boys are demanding exorbitant fees for ambulance services. The recent case involves a woman rushed to the hospital in labor, where her family dialed the emergency ambulance number 102. The ward boy demanded Rs. 300 to transport her from the ambulance to the hospital entrance, exploiting her vulnerable situation. Although the family initially gave Rs. 100 and then Rs. 200, the ward boy continued to press for the full Rs. 300. Eventually, they had to relent.

This begs the question of how such practices tarnish the government’s initiatives. The Women’s Hospital of Mirzapur has long suffered from infamy, from mishandling deliveries to improper treatment. The hospital’s negligence has led to tragic incidents in the past, raising concerns about the state of women’s healthcare.
