Lucknow: The body of a 19-year-old girl, a BSc second-year student, missing since Friday, was found floating in a canal on Saturday in Kannauj district. The girl had gone missing while on her way back from college in the Tirwa area on Friday afternoon. Police sent the body for postmortem.

The girl, resident of a village under Sursi police out-post of Thathia police station, was pursuing BSc at a Women’s degree college in Tirwa area of the district, police said, adding that on Friday, the girl went to her college to appear for exam. “When she did not return home till noon, her family members tried to contact her on her mobile phone,” said police, adding that the bell rang once and after that it switched off.

The girl’s parents contacted her other college friends, who said she had left for home after writing the exam. The family members launched a frantic search for her in the surrounding areas, but to no avail. When they failed to trace her, they informed the local police. On Saturday morning, the family members resumed the search. Meanwhile, her body was found floating in a canal on the village outskirts.
