Former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, clinched the win late on Sunday, adding a modest momentum to her campaign. However, the towering figure of former President Donald Trump maintains a formidable lead in the race for the Republican nomination in the upcoming presidential election in November.
Trump’s dominance is evident as he secured a significant portion of the vote, with Haley’s victory garnering only a portion. The outcome awarded Haley all 19 delegates up for grabs, underscoring a shift in sentiments among Republicans closer to the political hub of Washington.
In response to the results, Olivia Perez-Cubas, spokesperson for the Haley campaign, remarked, “It’s not surprising that Republicans closest to Washington dysfunction are rejecting Donald Trump and all his chaos.”
