Guwahati, May 12 (IANS) The opposition regional outfit — Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday expressed resentment after allegedly not receiving an invitation to the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.
Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said he was disappointed over being excluded from the ceremony despite being a two-time elected legislator. “They did not invite me to the swearing-in ceremony. I have become an MLA twice, yet I was not invited,” Gogoi said, expressing his displeasure over the matter.
The Sivasagar MLA alleged that the state government ignored opposition representatives while inviting dignitaries and political leaders to the high-profile event held at Khanapara on Tuesday.
The BJP-led NDA registered a sweeping victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Sarma to continue as Chief Minister.
Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of the state for a second consecutive term, as the BJP-led NDA formed the government in Assam for the third straight time.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at Khanapara in Guwahati in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and several top BJP and NDA leaders.
Along with Sarma, four MLAs were also sworn in as ministers — Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Charan Boro and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog.
The ceremony was also attended by the BJP’s national leaders and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states. Several prominent religious leaders, including 15 Satradhikars from Assam’s Vaishnavite monasteries, also attended the event. Several leading industrialists and distinguished personalities from different sectors were present at the ceremony.
