Members of opposition of the parliamentary standing committee on Home staged a walkout from a meeting on Thursday. The reason behind their walkout was the denial of their request to discuss the situation in Manipur by the committee’s chairman, Brijlal. The meeting was originally scheduled to focus on prison reforms in states. However, members including Derek O’Brien from the TMC and Digvijaya Singh and Pradip Bhattacharya from the Congress submitted letters to Brijlal, asserting that they cannot ignore the situation in Manipur as committee members. This was not the first time O’Brien and Singh had written to Brijlal, as they had previously urged him to hold a meeting specifically dedicated to discussing the concerns surrounding Manipur.
