Physiotherapist who stabbed wife arrested; sedated kids to escape blame, say police

Lucknow: Almost two weeks after a woman was found dead with 18 stab wounds at her residence in Thakurganj, police claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of her physiotherapist husband on Tuesday. Police said the accused Anand (aka Anandeshwar Agrahari, 40) had sedated his child, after stabbing his wife Sandhya (38) with a kitchen knife, before fleeing the scene. Additional deputy commissioner of police, West Zone, Vishwajeet Srivastav, said a case was registered under IPC 302 (murder) against Anand on the complaint of the victim’s brother Aman Sahu. “The knife was also recovered and the man was sent to jail,” said the ADCP.

“Anand said he was in dispute with his wife over her alleged extra-marital affair and money related problems,” the DCP said, adding that the man was alcoholic and addicted to betting. “He tied his wife’s hands and legs and stabbed her 18 times with a kitchen knife, causing her death” said police. Anand told police he chose to kill her when his elder son Tanishq, who is speech impaired, was asleep and even sedated his younger son, Shaurya (9).

Police said, “To escape being caught, the man took the CCTV’s DVR with him and fled to Kolkata, from where, he went to Varanasi and then kept changing location, making minimum use of his phone.” The ADCP added that several members of the team, including Crime surveillance team (West), were formed they located the man using all ground and technical surveillance.

The accused was nabbed using a mobile phone whose number police were able to track with the help of his friend. The accused had thought that the mobile phone which was not in his or a family member’s name, would never come under surveillance. Little did he realise that police were close on his heels and he was intercepted at Krishnanagar crossing, on Tuesday.
