Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched marine projects worth Rs 23,000 crore and also released a long-term vision document for the blue economy.
According to an official statement, it outlines strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing port facilities, promoting sustainable practices and facilitating international cooperation.
He dedicated to the nation or laid the foundation stone of projects worth more than Rs 23,000 crore for the Indian Maritime Blue Economy during the 3rd edition of the “Global Maritime India Summit”.
In this summit, major issues related to the maritime sector including future ports will be discussed. Apart from this, issues like carbon reduction (decarbonization), coastal shipping and inland water transport, shipbuilding, finance, marine tourism etc. will also be discussed in the meeting.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of Tuna-Tekra Terminal to be built at a cost of about Rs 4,500 crore at Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat.
This greenfield terminal will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) process. The terminal is likely to emerge as an international trade hub and will handle next generation vessels and act as a gateway for Indian trade through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Prime Minister Modi also dedicated more than 300 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) worth about Rs 7.16 lakh crore for global and national partnership in the maritime sector.
