National Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the need of the hour is to develop an environment-friendly and reliable transport environment. He also asked the Indian automobile industry to pave the way to achieve the goals of ‘Amrit Kaal’. In his message at the annual conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), an organization of automobile manufacturers, Modi acknowledged the role of the industry in the country’s growth.

The Prime Minister said in his message, “Today, various modes of transport in India are important to accelerate growth. As crores of people come out of poverty and enter the neo-middle class, there is social and economic mobility.” SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal read out the Prime Minister’s address to the people present at the program.

“As they drive the country’s growth through their aspirations, they give our economy the power to become the fastest growing economy in the world,” Modi said. Due to this, India has become the fifth largest economy from the 10th largest economy. Soon we are set to reach the top three.” Modi reiterated that the automobile industry is both a catalyst and a beneficiary in the value-creation cycle. He said that the industry has contributed to income growth by providing employment to crores of people.

“Also, the automobile industry has also benefited from higher demand generated by economic growth,” he said. Today, the need of the hour is to develop an environment-friendly and reliable transportation environment. Environment-conscious and economically viable mobility is the future.” The Prime Minister cited several alternative technologies like ethanol, flex fuel (a mixture of ethanol with petrol), CNG, bio-CNG, hybrid electric and hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions. Also stressed the need to continue and increase concerted efforts to reduce emissions and India’s dependence on oil imports.
