New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 73rd birthday by inaugurating the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), known as ‘YashoBhoomi,’ in Dwarka on Sunday. Earlier in the day, he inaugurated the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station, “YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.” Following the inauguration, he took a ride on the Delhi Metro. Passenger operations on the new extension will commence at 3 pm on Sunday.
The YashoBhoomi Centre, covering an expansive area of over 70,000 square meters, boasts convention rooms and a main auditorium. It also features a grand ballroom capable of accommodating over 10,000 delegates.
The approximately 2-kilometer-long Yashobhoomi line of the Delhi Metro will connect Dwarka Sector 21 and the India International Convention Centre.
Visuals captured PM Modi interacting with Metro passengers, who also took selfies and extended birthday wishes. With the addition of this section, the Airport Express Line’s total length from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 will reach 24.9 km, as per the DMRC.
Starting today, the Delhi Metro will increase the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr, reducing travel time. The total journey from New Delhi to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 will now take approximately 21 minutes.
In light of these developments, Delhi Traffic Police has implemented various vehicular restrictions in West Delhi, Dwarka, and Gurgaon today. Traffic disruptions are expected on NH-48, in the Punjabi Bagh area, and at UER-II, Peeragarhi, and Meera Bagh Road areas.
