PMAY-U 2.0: 38,000 families perform grih pravesh in Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh received a major housing boost under PMAY-U 2.0 on Saturday as more than 42,000 eligible beneficiaries were sanctioned houses with government assistance worth Rs 1,050 crore, while another 38,000 families entered their newly built homes across the state.

The initiative was launched during a major programme held at Sanwer in Indore district, benefiting over 80,000 families through fresh sanctions and Grih Pravesh ceremonies.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal led the event in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. State Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of State for Urban Administration and Development Pratima Bagri, and other state ministers also attended the programme.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, sanction letters were distributed to more than 42,000 beneficiaries, enabling them to access financial assistance for constructing or acquiring pucca houses. In addition, around 38,000 families across various districts of Madhya Pradesh performed Grih Pravesh ceremonies for their newly completed homes.

Addressing the gathering, Manohar Lal congratulated the beneficiaries and said every new house represents dignity, security and hope for families. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to achieving the goal of Housing for All under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister said that access to permanent housing not only ensures safe and secure living conditions but also improves access to essential services and livelihood opportunities. He noted that the housing scheme has also strengthened women’s empowerment by mandating ownership in the name of the woman of the household or through joint ownership.

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as one of the best-performing states in the implementation of PMAY-U. Under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, more than 10.39 lakh houses have been sanctioned in the state, while over 9.08 lakh houses have already been completed.

The latest sanctions and house completions mark another step in expanding affordable housing coverage in the state. Under PMAY-U 2.0, the government aims to support an additional one crore EWS, LIG and MIG families across urban India by providing financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh for constructing, purchasing or renting a pucca house.
