Lucknow: The Nazirabad police have been accused of stealing jewellery from a corpse.
Not only this, the man who had accused police of committing an offence, a case of house trespass and theft was slapped against him.
The victim then appeared in the Chief Minister’s Janta Darbar and narrated his ordeal.
After this, an order was issued by the government to the Kanpur Commissionerate to act in the matter.
On April 12, Nikhil alias Vivek had allegedly killed his mother -Rajkumari and then committed suicide in RK Nagar locality under the limits of the Nazirabad police station area. After the incident, inspector Nazirabad Kaushalendra Pratap Singh and police out-post incharge Ravi Kumar had reached the spot along with the force and conducted the investigation.
Rajkumari’s elder son Jitendra alias Durgesh has alleged that gold chains, rings and bracelets (jewellery worth three lakhs) were present on his mother’s corpse during her death.
During the investigation, the Nazirabad police took off the jewellery from the body and took it into their possession, but it was neither mentioned in the inquest or the GD.
Jitendra said that after performing the last rites of his mother, he had gone to the Nazirabad police station to collect her jewellery. The personnel on duty however threatened and turned him away saying that they did not recover anything like this. After this, he also lodged a complaint about the matter on the IGRS portal on June 22.
A sub-inspector of the police station was asked to conduct an inquiry. He however filed a report on June 26 stating that there were no such ornaments found on the woman’s body.
Jitendra alias Durgesh alleged that when he inquired from the police personnel about the mother’s jewellery, the police instead took a complaint from his sister-in-law, with whom he was not in good terms, on June 23 and got a case of home trespass and theft registered against him.
CP Kanpur BP Jogdand said that the investigation in the case has been given to ACP Colonelganj Akmal Khan. “Action will be taken in the matter on the basis of the investigation report,” he said.
