Tata Steel Chess India Blitz 2023,’ Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa displayed an outstanding performance by securing five consecutive victories on the opening day, positioning himself as the front-runner with 6.5 points on Friday.
The 18-year-old Praggnanandhaa, who had a joint third-place finish in the ‘Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2023’ on Thursday, embarked on a remarkable winning streak during the initial five rounds on Friday. However, his winning spree was momentarily halted by Alexander Grischuk, a Russian Grandmaster, who managed to secure a draw in the sixth round.
Following the draw, Praggnanandhaa faced two consecutive defeats in the seventh and eighth rounds. Nevertheless, he made a strong comeback by winning the final round of the day, triumphing over his fellow Indian chess player, Arjun Erigaisi.
