Preparations underway to reduce the tenure of the Lokayukta in Uttar Pradesh from 8 to 5 years, also considering raising the age limit to 70 years.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has amended the rules regarding the appointment of Lokayukta. The BJP government presented the Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the state assembly on Friday. This bill has modified the conditions of the anti-corruption Lokpal. Currently, the appointment of Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta is for a period of eight years. It has been decided to reduce this to five years. Officers up to the age of 70 can now be appointed to the position of Lokayukta. The condition for appointment to the Lokayukta position has been set for five years or until the age of 70 is completed.
