Electricity will now be more affordable in Punjab as the government has acquired the 540-megawatt GVK thermal power plant in Goindwal Sahib. Powercom has purchased it for Rs 1,080 crore. It will now be named Guru Amar Das Thermal Plant. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that this is the cheapest thermal power plant to date, with four private thermal power plants being sold before.
