Mobike Jumps Off Flyover, Kills Car Driver In Underpass
Lucknow: Like speed, clicking selfies and making reels while driving thrills, but kills. In a tragic incident, a couple making reel on a speeding motorcycle on a Varanasi flyover lost control over the wheels after which their bike flung over the railing and landed on a car going through the underpass, killing the driver and leaving his friend injured.
Police said that the motorcycle probably hit a divider and fell in the underpass through a nearby opening of the flyover in Ganjari area of Shivpur in the city. The couple riding the motorcycle escaped unhurt and did not come to claim the vehicle. Efforts are on to ascertain their identity through the chassis number of the brand new motorcycle which doesn’t have any registration number.
The victim was identified as Sarvesh Shankar, a junior engineer in the railway. His friend, Aditya Verma, suffered grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Inspector, Shivpur, Baijnath Singh said that eye-witnesses informed the police that a youth and a girl were making social media reel on a motorcycle.
“The boy lost control and both of them fell on the flyover. While the duo escaped, the motorcycle flung over the railing and fell on a car passing by at the underpass,” Singh said. “No registration number was found on the two-wheeler. We have launched a search for the motorcycle owner with the help of the vehicle’s chassis number,” he said.
The inspector said that nobody was found on the flyover after the incident and no one turned up to claim the mobike. “A case has been registered against an unidentified person. Further action will be initiated after the vehicle owner is found,” Singh said.
Police said that Savesh, a resident of Ganjari in Cholapur, was posted in the electricity department of the East Central Railway in Prayagraj and had come to his home in Varanasi on leave. He was going to a market with his friend, Aditya, when the accident took place.
“Sarvesh suffered head injuries and died on the spot. Aditya also suffered serious injuries and has been hospitalised. Before the passersby could find out who was riding the motorcycle, the couple had fled the scene,” Singh said.
