A massive scam of ₹3,000 crores has been uncovered in Virar, near Mumbai. Led by an individual with a 10th-grade education, the scam involved the construction of several buildings using fake documents. Subsequently, the mastermind sold more than 3,000 flats to unsuspecting buyers. The fraud was detected by Mumbai police, resulting in the arrest of five culprits. They used fake documents to build numerous buildings in the Vasai-Virar area and sold them to thousands of people. These flats were priced between ₹15-20 lakhs each. More than 55 buildings were constructed with clearance from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). The arrested suspects include a real estate developer, agent, home loan provider, and counterfeit stamp maker. Police suspect that this deception has been ongoing since 2015. The accused manipulated tribal agricultural land into non-agricultural land using fraudulent documents, gaining RERA approvals, and even subsidies for buyers from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
