Sentence reduced for 7 prominent democracy supporters Seven prominent pro-democracy activists, including Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai, were on Monday canceled part of their sentences for their role in the widespread protests in 2019. Jimmy Lai, the founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper, Martin Li, the founding chairman of the Democratic Party and barrister Margaret Ng, five former pro-democracy MPs, were found guilty of illegal assembly and participation. But now some of their punishment has been reduced.
