Lucknow: A police sub-inspector in charge of Marhauli police outpost, Ajay Kumar, landed in jail on Sunday after being caught red handed by anti-corruption team accepting bribe from an applicant, on Saturday.
Kumar, a 2015 batch police officer, who got charge of Marhauli police outpost two months ago, was investigating a case of cheating and fraud lodged by Umang Khanna of Kakarmatta. Khanna’s father Bishan Das Khanna said that for the past few days Kumar had been seeking Rs 25,000 as bribe to add more sections of IPC to the complaint to ensure punishment for the accused and threatening that in case he was not paid he would close the case after submitting a final report.
The Khannas turned to the anti-corruption cell in charge inspector Niraj Kumar Singh, who along with his team finalised a plan as per which Kumar was contacted. When Khanna reached Marhauli outpost and handed over the amount sought as bribe, Singh and his team members caught him red-handed.
Later, the anti-corruption cell’s team lodged an FIR against Kumar with Cantt police. ACP Cantt Atul Anjan Tripathi said that after producing before the court, Kumar was sent to jail on Sunday.
